Clarity Lifts the Darkness
There are some simple truths about communication, including…
If something is murky to leaders,
then it is pitch black to the masses.
It’s our responsibility as leaders to shine a bright light on the facts and the path forward, which means one of our primary goals must be clarity.
If we leave voids, people will naturally fill them with all kinds of conspiracy theories, half-truths, and rumors. And during times of great uncertainty, it only gets much worse.
We can all but eliminate that from happening by:
being more transparent than we are naturally comfortable being,
sharing the concise facts of the situation,
communicating the game plan moving forward (or better yet, seeking input on the game plan from your team), and
doing so frequently.
This mean “over-communicating” and being redundant.
If you are stating important things once or twice, or worse yet, assuming “everyone already knows,” you’re executing a doomed approach.
Clarity lifts the darkness for your team!
